Carville Park Senior Apartments to be fully renovated with all-union labor

RENO, NEVADA — On Tuesday, October 29, the Northern Nevada Building & Construction Trades Council Development Corp. was joined by The Honorable Adrianne Todman, Agency Head of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to break ground on the complete rehabilitation of Carville Park Apartments, a Section 8 senior preference affordable housing complex in Reno, Nevada. This event marks the beginning of a transformative project that will provide fully renovated, union-built affordable housing for seniors in Northern Nevada.

The project will be the first major renovation on the property since it was built in 1978, and is a collaborative effort with the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust and the Nevada State Infrastructure Bank.

"Using all-union labor, this project stands as a testament to the dedication of Northern Nevada’s building trades unions," said Rob Benner, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Northern Nevada Building Trades Development Corp. "It represents our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality, affordable housing for seniors in Northern Nevada, while creating great-quality union jobs for local construction workers."

The Northern Nevada Building Trades Development Corp. has partnered with LR Contracting Company for the renovation. It is expected to create 132 union construction jobs, 426 jobs across all industries, and up to $79.9 million in total economic impact.

“We are excited to be a part of this transformative project to preserve and enhance Carville Park Apartments, a property that has for 40 years provided affordable housing for the residents of Reno,” said Don Biernacki, President of LR Contracting Company. “We look forward to working with the Union building and construction trades in Northern Nevada and the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust to provide the community with well-designed quality affordable housing for many years to come.”
